Pakistani boxer Mohammad Waseem's world title fight has been postponed due to non-issuance of visa.
Waseem, who is currently in Scotland, was scheduled to travel to Dubai for his fight but his visa application was rejected due to incorrect information. Immediately after rejection, Waseem's Dubai-based Disrupt Promotions reapplied for visa but the application couldn't process in limited time.
Star boxer and three-time WBC flyweight world silver champion Waseem was scheduled to face four-time world champion Donnie Nietes of the Philippines tomorrow [July 22].
"Unfortunately, the fight has been postponed. There is not enough time to wait for the visa as all the other participants have reached Dubai," Waseem's manager told GeoSuper.tv.
"This fight will now be rescheduled in mid of August. His promotion is planning to collaborate for a big event in Saudi Arabia. Hopefully, his fight will now take place in Saudi Arabia," the manager added.
Meanwhile, Waseem, in a video message, said that it is disappointing for him that the fight has been postponed.
"I worked really hard in the camp for this fight. My aim was to win the title for Pakistan. I would like to thank my promotions for this opportunity. I am hopeful that this fight will be rescheduled soon," he concluded.
